Andrew, how long have you been interested in Photography?
I have been interested in photography for the past 3-4 years, I studied Fine Art at university and then when I finished I got a full time job, since then I have been doing photography on days off and whenever I have spare time.

What photographers from the past do you admire?
I don’t have many photographers I particularly admire, some of the artists I enjoy are Andy Warhol, Grayson Perry, Tracey Emin, Martin Parr and Damien Hirst.

What photographic equipment do you like using? Do you have any vintage cameras?
I have a few vintage cameras, they have formed a nice display in my flat. I used film for a while but I found even though the process is great the time involved in it was too long for me. My favourite camera I had which I sold after university was a Mamiya 645 with waist level viewfinder and 85mm lens, it was a fantastic studio camera but not that practical when being out and about. Currently I used a Nikon D600 DSLR with a few lenses.

Any tips you can share about taking a great photo?
Depending on what you are photographing don’t delete anything till you have time to review, sometimes a photo you may think is a dud on the camera looks a lot different when being edited or when printed. I like to try and shoot a mixture of colour and black and white images to get a different perspective.

In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out?
For me a good picture that stands out is one with bold colours, a strong presence, whether it is a person or an object and a great depth of field. I love setting my camera to 1.8 and shooting at that.

Looking at your website onepointeight.co.uk you seem to like photographing vintage events and markets – what impresses you the most?
What impresses me the most is the quality of objects I always find, whether it is clothing, furniture or just random items, I love it. The way people organise their events and markets they always seem to pay close attention to the detail.

Is your home vintage inspired?
I have a few things at the moment, an old imperial typewriter, my vintage cameras scattered around, I am in the process of moving in with my girlfriend so soon we will have our own place to decorate with what we have collected so far.

Do you wear vintage clothes?
I do not, I am always impressed by the care and detail I see taken by those who wear vintage clothes either at events or out and about in London.

Do you collect anything special?
I like to always be on the look out for things that will look nice but also be functional. Old metal tins, frames, cameras and kitchenware, especially enamel ware.
